Description:

A system for the living environment capable of delineating a domestic landscape in a fluid and flexible way. This is Esosoft, the first project signed by Antonio Citterio for Cassina: a modular sofa that embodies the Italian designer’s distinctive elegance and timeless style, but at the same time is intended as a tribute to the art of the great masters and the custom of conceiving furniture by separating the structural part from the upholstered interior.
Indeed, Esosoft presents an aluminum exoskeleton that supports a shell with an organic silhouette, on which soft cushions are laid. The form combines past and future: it recalls the sense of informal comfort typical of the 1960s and uses cutting-edge production techniques, consciously chosen to make the system circular and sustainable: thanks to the work of Cassina LAB, circular materials such as polyurethane for the foam, which contains a percentage of polyols derived from renewable organic sources, and recycled PET wadding for the cushions were implemented.
In addition to the single seat cushion, the back cushions are also upholstered with blown recycled PET fiber. The Esosoft collection consists of eight modules that can be used as single sofas or combined to create corner compositions, providing great flexibility in configuring the living space. Particular attention has been paid to size, to allow for use even in metropolitan environments, where spaces are usually smaller. Available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, the cushions can be added individually or in predefined sets. The Esosoft family is completed by benches in a variety of sizes, ottomans and a series of small tables with corrugated glass tops in a selection of colors or marble.

It partnered with distinguished architects and designers to find new ways of designing and thus beginning industrial design in Italy as early as the 1950s.
