In 1958 Gio Ponti was entrusted with the task of designing the auditorium attached to the Time&Life building, at 1271 of Avenue of the Americas in New York
It is Ponti’s most important assignment in New York. The D.859.1 table, used primarily as a large conference table, stands out among the others furnishings of the auditorium not only for its imposing dimensions, over 3.60 meters in length, but above all for the refined and essential design.
The trapezoidal base stands out for its lightness and modernity. A real single-span bridge, on which rests a large surface with a tapered shape which accentuates its aerodynamics. Made at the time in solid ash with brass tips, it is re-proposed both in the original version and in black stained ash. In addition to the original sizes, D.859.1 is available in two smaller dimensions that faithfully respect the harmony and proportions of the original project.
